Norður Salt is made by a traditional Icelandic/Danish method dating back to 1753 that was practiced in the same place we make Norður Salt today. The traditional method and the location of our salt is what we believe to be the ideal conditions to make flaky sea salt. The same reasons behind the salt making 260 years ago explain why we are here today.
FROM THE ARCTIC SEA TO NORÐUR SALT FLAKES
Our salt production is about combining two forces of nature; geothermal energy and the Arctic Ocean. At our salt production facility in Karlsey, Reykhólar, we use both geothermal water directly from the geothermal wells at Reykhólar.
SUSTAINABLE
Our inspiration to make salt in the first place is our infinite belief in natural high- quality Icelandic foodstuff made using sustainable production methods and renewable energy. We believe in transparent food production that has minimal negative impact on the environment. This is our belief, maybe it is but a drop in the ocean, but we care about the environment and the quality of our products. We hope you will care and enjoy our product, too.
