TÍRA is a new line of reflective accessories designed by mosaic artist Alice Olivia Clarke and architect Kári Eiríksson. TÍRA is handmade locally from Icelandic wool (lopi) and high intensity reflective thread.
Noticing a few years ago that very few local adults could be bothered to wear traditional reflectors in the dark, we started to develop the idea of something that didn't look like a reflector, but improved nighttime visibility of these style conscious adults.
An object that was a reflector only when reflection of light was needed.
We experimented with a combination of the local wool (Lopi) and high intensity reflective thread, weaving together the reflective qualities of the high tech material and the unique combination of warmth, light weight and water resistance of the traditional Lopi.
The result is TÍRA, a new line of reflective accessories. Our first product is a reflective crochet flower, available in a selection of Álafoss Lopi colours. TÍRA integrates the traditional with the contemporary. A new dimension is added to the Icelandic lopi by incorporating the shine of hi-tech reflective thread.
